C1 S12 - The Glib Priest
This session played June 29, 2026.
Note: As neat as Lonelog is, boy but I’m finding it tedious to translate my handwritten logs into that format. I’ll spend the next few sessions doing a more direct transcription of my logs with some light cleanup for clarity, and we’ll see how that goes.

King’s Gate - Crimson Dragon Tavern - Day 7 AM - Showers
Solodark prompts: how is Gartak [priest ally from carousing] going to help us?
2d100 → 33; 1. INVESTIGATE FAULT.
As day breaks, party awakens feeling (mostly) refreshed. We meet Gartak at a table downstairs in the tavern; he is bright and cheery, sipping tea from a small clay mug. Far too loudly, he greets us.
Gartak: So! When do we depart?
Denton: What do you mean?
Gartak: We haven’t a moment to lose! There’s a child needs saving, a sorceress needs thrashing, a King needs disappointing! Our quarry has over a day’s head start on us, isn’t that right?
Ryarn: You mean to aid us?
Gartak: It would be an honor if it weren’t my duty! As a Templar of Ord it is my unending charge to right a balance upended, and if what you told me last night about the Oath of Frost is true, there would be no worthier use of my talents than to return a boy to his father—to say nothing of returning an entropic vessel to its protectors. I may have seen a fair number of seasons, but I can assure you I won’t slow you down!
Brolga, remembering the snakes, is grateful for the experienced aid, and looks forward to speaking more with another Half-Orc.
Daeniel eyes Gartak’s gold tooth.
Denton is surprised by Gartak’s offer but really hit it off with him last night, so welcomes the new companion.
Ryarn is happy for the help but plans to play her cards close to her chest as far as the search for her father’s ring goes.
Housekeeping for Gartak
Gartak is a LVL 5 Priest; AC 15 (chainmail + shield); HP 23; ATK 2 mace + 3 (1d6) or 1 spell + 3; MV near; S +1 / D +0 / C +1 / I +0 / W +2 / Ch +1; Alignment Lawful.
Spells from “Priest” entry in Shadowdark bestiary pg 243.
Rules for Gartak will loosely follow Retainer rules from “Friends In Dark Places,” including loyalty and payment.
Ryarn: Duty or no, we will be taking you from your work, and our mission is a risky one. Can we offer you some portion of the spoils, should there be any along the way?
We will offer ½ share (+0 Loyalty), 2/3 (+2 Loyalty), or full (+4 Loyalty) based on 1d6 → 1. ½ share. No bonus to loyalty checks. But, because Gartak is inviting himself along due to a sense of holy duty, let’s roll loyalty with Advantage.
